Treat yourself to a fabulous visit to Memphis to attend the 85th Birthday Celebrations for Elvis, take a tour of his beautiful Graceland home, see all the Elvis sights of Memphis on the most comprehensive tour that there is, enjoy a visit his Birthplace in Tupelo and have free time to explore at leisure, to enjoy the atmosphere and sounds of Beale Street and to attend the Graceland events arranged over this special time. And if you’ve never been to Memphis over the Birthday period then you’ll be in for a treat. The Christmas lights at Graceland will still be there to see, attending the Birthday Proclamation (always with invited star guests) is a great experience and to enjoy the special Birthday Concerts and activities arranged over this special time is both exciting and fun.
Our tour then returns to the UK…or does it? Because for 2020 we also have another option. You can continue on to Las Vegas for a 4 night stay…
After our stay in Memphis we fly to glittering Las Vegas – the gambling oasis in the midst of the Mojave Desert where Elvis truly was King – breaking all records for show attendance and proving to the world what a superstar he really was. We’ll stay at the very hotel that he stayed and appeared at and a backstage (and on stage!) tour with Dick Grob, Elvis’ former Head of Security, is planned. Time enough too to take an optional trip to the awesome Grand Canyon, to see the mighty Hoover Dam and to take a stroll along the famous Las Vegas ‘Strip’ to see all the other glitzy hotels and casinos. And on one night we’ll have a party – attended by some of our ‘Elvis friends’ – people that worked for, performed or acted with Elvis.
Day 1. Tuesday 7th January 2020
Morning departure from London’s Heathrow Airport* for the scheduled transatlantic flight via a US gateway city to Memphis. Coach transfer to your chosen hotel and the remainder of the evening is free.
Day 2. Wednesday 8th January (Elvis Presley’s Birthday)
Time to enjoy the Elvis Day Proclamation Ceremony at Graceland before we drive south, over the Mississippi State Line, to Tupelo – ‘the friendliest city in the South’ and to Elvis’ Birthplace where you’ll enjoy their annual Birthday Celebrations (with coffee and Birthday Cake!). You’ll have ample time to absorb the atmosphere of this magical place, to visit the humble home where Elvis was born, experience an old time Service at the original Assembly of God Church that the young Elvis attended, see the Memorial Chapel, the award-winning Elvis Presley Museum and the Visitor Centre incorporating a beautiful theatre and gift shop. The grounds of the Birthplace are tastefully landscaped and include a lake, a fountain, statues of Elvis at 13yrs and at the height of his fame.
We’ll then take you on a tour of the Elvis to show you where Elvis went to school, Tupelo Hardware which is still very much the same as it was the day Gladys took Elvis there to buy him his first guitar, the Elvis Statue at the site of the old Fairgrounds and many other places significant to his life there.
Time even for some shopping and to have a meal before we head back to Memphis.
Day 3. Thursday 9th January (Graceland Day)
This morning you’ll be handed your Elvis Experience Pass for the tour of Graceland - the home that Elvis loved so much. An opportunity to walk through many of the rooms including the famous Jungle Room and to enjoy quiet reflection in Meditation Garden. Afternoon free to visit the attractions in Elvis Presley’s Memphis entertainment complex, to see the vast array of awards bestowed on Elvis, his amazing collection of cars and his two aircraft. Our now famous Shuttle-bus Service operating between Graceland and Downtown commences in the mid afternoon and operates through to late evening. Perhaps you’d like to join the Tour Managers on a visit to Beale Street this evening?
During the Birthday period Elvis Presley Enterprises will be staging activities concerts, sock hops, and Guest Interviews. No details are available at the time of printing this brochure but full details will be sent to you nearer to departure date.
Day 4. Friday 10th January
Come with us to see the Elvis sights of Memphis on a guided tour that also includes many of the city’s major landmarks. We’ll show you the Mississippi River, Mud Island and the Riverboats, the impressive Pyramid, the FedEx Forum, the Cotton, the Rock & Soul and the National Civil Rights Museums but most of all we’ll show you the places significant to Elvis’ life. Amongst dozens of other sights you’ll see Humes High School where he joined in the 8th grade, Beale Street, the impressive Peabody Hotel where his school Prom was held, Sun Studio (where we’ll enjoy a guided tour), some of the places where Elvis performed and where he lived in Lauderdale Courts and Audobon Drive. Developed over 47 years our tour is regarded as the best there is. Elvis was a world superstar – he could have lived anywhere he wanted but he chose to stay in Memphis, because he loved it…we’ll show you why.
Day 5 Saturday 11th January
A full day at leisure - your chance to revisit Graceland or to explore Memphis, to visit some of the fascinating museums, to see the ‘Duck Parade’ in the grandiose lobby of the famous Peabody Hotel, and to shop and sightsee at will.
