ELVIS SPRING BREAK 2020
MARSHAM COURT HOTEL
Spring Bank Holiday Weekend
Friday 22nd to Monday 25th or Tuesday 26th May 2020
Join us for a fabulous long (or even longer!) weekend of Elvis entertainment and fun in the lovely resort of Bournemouth
The Elvis Spring Break was a popular part of the Elvis scene for many years and we actually felt guilty about losing it for a year or so – but it needed to be done – mainly to make way for us to introduce other trips such as the Memphis Spring Breaks or the very successful Paris Tour. However, we’ve had so many requests to bring back the UK Elvis Spring Break for 2020 we felt we couldn’t let you down. So here it is…and this time we’ve chosen the South Coast’s premier resort of Bournemouth as the location and the Marsham Court Hotel as the fabulous venue. And we just know that you’ll love both.
Marsham Court Hotel
This large privately-owned hotel sits proudly on Bournemouth’s East Cliff overlooking the sea, directly opposite the historic Russell Cotes Art Gallery & Museum and just a few minutes stroll from the glorious sandy beach and pier, the scenic Lower and Central Gardens and the town centre shops. The hotel (www.marshamcourthotel.com) was quite a find with its handsomely furnished, larger than usual accommodation, a wonderful selection of rooms, many with sea views and some with private balconies…all, of course, with modern en suite facilities.
The hotel also offers a large and comfortable lounge bar, an excellent restaurant, a heated outdoor pool and sun deck, and perfect function rooms for our Elvis Spring Break. Each evening there’s a 3 course plus tea/coffee table-service dinner selection for you to choose from and you can start each day with ‘Full English’ buffet breakfast plus there’s juices, cereals, yoghurts, fruit, breads & pastries. You definitely won’t go hungry!
If travelling by car then the hotel has a large car park (no charge for hotel guests) and the train and coach stations are a five minute taxi ride away.
Activities and Entertainment
We kick off our Elvis entertainment with an all-Elvis Disco on the Friday 22nd evening – a great opportunity to relax after your journey, to meet up with old friends, enjoy a dance or just sit back and listen to your favourite Elvis tracks played by our DJ Mark Monaghan.
We’ll be keeping the morning of Saturday 23rd mostly free for you to enjoy the facilities of the hotel, to explore Bournemouth, head for the beach or gardens or take in some retail therapy in the excellent shopping streets just minutes from the hotel. However we’ll have our Elvis Marketplace plus an Elvis Movie Medley during the day and this evening we have live music with Rockin’ Dave Riley followed by our all-Elvis Disco.
Sunday 24th morning (but not too early!) sees the return of Dave Riley’s Request Show as he sings the numbers (Elvis or otherwise) of your choice. He has an encyclopaedic memory for lyrics so see if you can catch him out with some rarities. The afternoon is free except for buying (or selling) at the Elvis Marketplace and other Elvis-related activities and this evening we welcome live band Greggi G and his Crazy Gang – the ever-popular and totally infectious 4-piece rock’n’roll band that’ll have you dancing the night away. And that’ll be followed by our all-Elvis Disco, of course
And if you are staying for 4 nights including the Monday 25th then this will be regarded as a chill-out day so the day will be left free for you to perhaps go and visit Elvis’ last ever car at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu (plus visit the Palace and Abbey at the same time), to take a cruise of historic Poole Harbour, visit the Oceanarium Aquarium, explore some of the picturesque New Forest villages or even take a day trip over to the Isle of Wight. If enough people take the 4 night option then we will extend our all-Elvis Disco through to the Monday night as well – and if not then we’ll have a relaxing evening (with some Elvis music) in the bar.
With its Blue Flag award-winning golden sand beaches, cosmopolitan atmosphere and great location on Britain’s southern coastline, Bournemouth somehow combines city excitement with resort relaxation – so no wonder it is one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations. There really is so much to do here but, perhaps, just as important, it’s a great place to do very little…’cept sit in the sunshine and watch the world go by. For the active there are water sports a’plenty, plus golf, beach walks, beautiful gardens to see, stately homes, museums and galleries to visit and a superb choice of excursions to take such as a cruise of Poole Harbour, the 2nd largest natural harbour in the world (after Sydney Harbour – we knew you’d ask!)), a fascinating visit to the RNLI College to see how they train the lifeboat crews, a drive through the tranquil New Forest, search for fossils along the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, take a thrilling Pier-to-Shore zip-wire ‘flight’ or a more sedate trundle along the promenade on the Land Train.
In need of some retail therapy? Then you could hardly be in a better place for treatment. The big-name stores of Bournemouth’s city centre are just a few minutes from the hotel and there’s certainly no shortage of shops…department stores, boutiques, speciality emporiums and the obligatory multitude of coffee shops are all there but if you are looking for quaintness, individuality, retro, antiques, nautical or just plain quirky then you’re sure to find something special along the lanes around Poole Quay, in the nearby coastal villages of Southbourne, Boscombe, Westbourne (which has an exquisite Victorian Arcade) or the nearby town of Christchurch.
Feeling peckish – well that’s more than taken care of by the vast array of eateries. Whilst breakfast and dinner are included in this Spring Break you could of course also have lunch in the hotel but isn’t it tempting to have it at Rick Stein’s Sandbanks restaurant or perhaps enjoy fish’n’chips followed by an ice cream on the seafront? Oh, and the Marsham Court Hotel are renowned for their extravagant Afternoon Teas. Prosecco anyone?
