BAD NAUHEIM AND G.I. BLUES
THURSDAY 16TH OCTOBER - MONDAY 20TH OCTOBER 2025
BAD NAUHEIM, G.I. BLUES & PARIS
THURSDAY 16TH OCTOBER - THURSDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2025
Day 1. Thursday 16th October 2025
Departure from the UK for a morning flight to Frankfurt in Germany where we’ll board the coach and drive to Bad Homburg – one of the first places Elvis stayed in Germany at the former Ritter’s Park
Hotel which we’ll visit. We’ll then drive to the Hotel Villa Grunewald in Bad Nauheim where Elvis and his entourage lived for a number of months. Although this lovely hotel has been modernised, the
small suite in which Elvis lived has a strict Preservation Order on it and so has been left almost exactly as it was when Elvis stayed here.
Remainder of the afternoon and evening to relax, to take a stroll in the beautiful gardens or to explore the town.
Day 2. Friday 17th October
Morning leisurely walking tour of Bad Nauheim and you will see dozens of Elvis sights including where Elvis lived, shopped, entertained and had some of the most famous photos taken during his
military service. Afternoon at leisure. This evening we’ll hold a small reception in the hotel where you’ll also get the opportunity to visit Elvis’ room.
Day 3. Saturday 18th
October
Our G. I. Blues Day as we board the coach for a full day’s tour of some of the film location sites used in the movie. We’ll visit ancient Idstein, the city of Wiesbaden
and the picturesque wine town of Rudesheim that sits on the banks of the River Rhine.
You’ll get the opportunity to ride the Seilbahn Rudesheim Cable Car which you’ll remember from the ‘Pocketful of Rainbows’ scene in the movie and there will be lots of photo and shopping
opportunities.
Day 4. Sunday 19th October
Mid-morning visit to the café at the top of the Johannisberg hilltop for splendid views over Bad Nauheim and the surrounding countryside. It was here that Elvis signed the tablecloth for an adoring
fan, only to have it snatched off him by the lady owner of the café who promptly washed it…if only she’d known!
Next stop (via train) is a visit to Friedberg where Elvis was stationed at the U S Army’s Ray Barracks. Elvis didn’t actually live here long as he had permission to live off-base but he served his
tour of duty here and it was the first town to have Elvis Traffic Lights! The town is very proud of its long-time connection with the USA and its Armed Forces.
Day 5. Monday 20th October
Morning visit to the pretty village of Steinfurth where Elvis and a working party moved a War Memorial on behalf of the villagers. Onward then to Frankfurt to join the
return flight to Heathrow arriving in the late afternoon. If however you are continuing to Paris the coach will be taking us on to Mannheim Station to connect with the train to Paris arriving into
Paris in the late-afternoon.
Once aboard the train there will be time to relax and watch as the scenery of Germany and France rushes by. On arrival into the Gare de l’ Est in Paris we will walk the approx. 200 yards to our
hotel, the Hotel ESTE. Evening free.
Day 6. Tuesday 21st October
This morning there will be a panoramic tour of Paris where we’ll see the famous Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame Cathedral and historic Montmartre with it’s beautiful Basilica of the Sacre Coeur. It was
here that Elvis saw the sunrise over the city and instantly fell in love with Paris. Free time here to enjoy lunch and shopping before taking the Metro to enjoy an hour-long cruise along the Seine to
enjoy a ‘ducks-eye view’ of the city. This afternoon/evening gives you time for another unique view of Paris with a visit up the Eiffel Tower. Evening Free
Day 7. Wednesday 22nd October
This morning we will see even more Elvis sights in Paris. After an optional visit to the top of the Arc de Triomph, there will be time to peruse the shops on the Champs Elysees (exactly as Elvis did)
we will also visit the swanky Prince de Galles hotel where Elvis stayed and where you may wish to enjoy lunch or just pop in for a drink.
Tonight why not join us for a most flamboyant of farewells to Paris with an optional visit to the world-famous Moulin Rouge, the nightclub-theatre that Elvis attended and which is synonymous with Parisian nightlife. Enjoy the show and a few glasses of champagne before returning to the hotel.
Day 8. Thursday 23rd October
Morning mostly free before transferring to the Gare du Nord to board the early afternoon Eurostar to London arriving back into St. Pancras Station in the early evening.
OUR HOTELS
Hotel Villa Grunewald
With just 16 bedrooms this hotel is one of the most elegant and sought-after places to stay – especially because this is where Elvis lived for much of his time in Bad Nauheim...and we’ve booked the whole hotel for our tour in November/December! Located overlooking the beautiful Spa Gardens and Park in the centre of the town it is within easy walking distance of the Elvis sights, shops, bars and restaurants. The rooms (except for the one that Elvis had which has been kept as it was - and which you'll get to visit inside) are all modern with private bathrooms and the hotel has a small restaurant and Lobby Bar but many who repeatedly stay here say that its biggest asset (other than the Elvis connection, of course) are the friendly, welcoming staff. A continental breakfast is included.
The ESTE Hotel
The HÔTEL ESTÉ has 76 bedrooms and is in a great location for visiting the main sights of Paris, there is wide choice of restaurants and bars within walking distance. This boutique style hotel is comfortable with plenty of design touches and the staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel boasts an indoor pool, spa, sauna and steam room. Breakfast is included
